At the heart of the Ballons des Vosges Natural Park, our hotel is the perfect place to stay to discover this vast region with its protected natural spaces. Medium-size mountain territory, the park is characterised by its rounded peaks, nicknamed “ballons” (balls), and covered by a dense forest of oak and beech trees. At the foot of these peaks, chalk grasslands, hay fields, orchards and vineyards make the perfect setting for walking. If you like hiking or simply love nature and want to discover all the rich fauna and flora of the park, set off on a tour led by one of the guides specialising in the Vosges mountains.
You’ll also be able to hike across the park’s trails on your own and discover such natural delights as the Tourbière De Machais nature reserve or Lake Gérardmer at your own pace. One of the park’s most famous trails is easily the Route des Crêtes (Route of the Ridges). Once a strategic line during World War I, this route is now popular with tourists thanks to the wonderful vistas it provides over the Vosges mountain range. At the top of Hohneck, for example, you’ll appreciate the orientation map which will allow you to spot the main peaks nearby, in particular the Grand Ballon.
